WINDHOEK – Secretary to Cabinet Frans Kapofi stepped down from the civil service with effect from last Friday and will be assuming a new career in the legislature as a parliamentarian come 2015.
Following 16 years at the helm of the Namibian public service, Kapofi has been elected to the National Assembly and appears at number 33 on the list of the 77 seats won by Swapo Party.
Matthew Gowaseb in the Office of the President issued a statement that the longest serving top civil servant ascribed his success in the public service to dedicated support and commitment from all civil servants.
According to Kapofi, Namibia is among the best in the world with regard to public administration and management.
“I am humbled by the fact that I had the privilege to lead the civil service and in so doing helped execute proactive policies to achieve social justice, while improving economic performance in different sectors,” said Kapofi.
Further, Kapofi indicated the task of nation-building rests on the shoulders of all Namibians and that each and every Namibian must be allowed to make a contribution towards the achievement of the country’s development goals.
Moreover, Kapofi expressed his appreciation to the people of Namibia, political leaders, civil servants, civil society and the media for their cooperation and support during his tenure as Secretary to Cabinet.
“Without the professional dedication and commitment of all Namibians, the public service would not have recorded the numerous successes with regard to overall public service administration and the implementation of policies and measures aimed at socio-economic upliftment of the citizens of our republic,” he noted.
