WINDHOEK – With Saturday’s result, MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL) table toppers, African Stars managed to maintain its stronghold on the league log after brushing aside Julinho Sporting by a 3-0 win at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Two goals from Stars’ winger Edwin Korukuve and one from Cameroonian import Edy Mangoumou were enough to send Julinho packing, while the victory came in handy for the Katutura giants who are faced with a daunting task of maintaining their lead at the top of the table.
In other results, undisputed Namibian champions, Black Africa, failed to collect three valuable points after scraping a 0-0 draw against coastal giants Blue Waters at the Kuisebmund Stadium on Saturday. Still at the coast, Eleven Arrows were also held to a 2-all draw by newcomers Unam FC, at the Kuisebmund Stadium.
In Tsumeb at the Oscar Norich Stadium on Saturday, Civics were held to a 1-1 draw by league returnees Benfica, while Citizens demolished Touch & GO FC by 4-2 in the second match of the day at the same venue.
At the Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo, Mighty Gunners made full use of home ground advantage when they put up a splendid performance to Tigers 2-0.
In the only match played on Friday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek, Orlando Pirates drew 1-1 with league rookies, while the match between Tura Magic and United Stars was abandoned due to a rain soaked pitch. Magic were leading by 4-1 before the game was called off.
