WINDHOEK – Pro Tennis Academy (PTA) rewarded its outstanding performers during an annual Tennis Series in Windhoek, recently.

The popular series, lived up to expectations once again with the participants going head-to-head over 8 Series tourneys this year, which came to a thrilling conclusion a fortnight ago.

“We saw a lot of improvement throughout the season with lots of quality tennis on display. We are confident that we can build on this success in the future to make the series bigger and better in the years to come,” declared a delighted Romeo van Wyk, the PTA’s Director and head coach.

Apart from the overall winners, special recognition was given to the players making the biggest strides both in the Academy and the Tennis Series. Mike Kambonde was one such outstanding player after the youngster finished 3rd in only his maiden season in the Beginner’s Category after moving up the ranks from the Midi Category.

His exceptional showing also earned him the title of “Most Improved Male Player 2014” at the Academy and 2nd place in the “Biggest Mover”, in the series.

Faith Kahuure was another player who made a name for herself despite having to settle for 4th place in her first season in the Beginner’s Category. Her move from the Midi division ensured she clinched 3rd place for the “Biggest Mover” award, which was later rounded off with the “Most Improved Female Player 2014” at the Academy.

Meanwhile Delicia Dirkse, winner of the Beginner’s Category, received the coveted “Sportswoman of the Year 2014” award, with Brandon Maasdorp taking the “Sportsman of the Year 2014” award.
