BUNYA – Health minister Dr Richard Kamwi says campaigning for Swapo is easy because there are countless success stories regarding the party’s achievements at the helm of government.
Kamwi said this to New Era before he addressed a mini rally on Monday at Bunya village in Kavango West, roughly 90km east of Nkurenkuru.
Kamwi told those in attendance that for Swapo to win next week’s general elections overwhelmingly, party members must tell of Swapo success stories in their entirety – including the party’s liberation struggle heroics.
Swapo prioritised education first, followed by health and there are major records of success in the two sectors, the health minister told his audience.
“At independence for some of us who were there, there was nothing called Katima Mulilo town, Divundu settlement and there was nothing called Nkurenkuru town and so on, but now there are tarred roads connecting the whole country, not gravel roads like in the past when people would travel long hours on poor roads,” Kamwi said.
“We also said we are going to further invest in agriculture and today we have green scheme projects such as Sikondo, Musese, Ndonga Linena and Sitemo, among others. All these didn’t exist before.”
Speaking about health, Kamwi said: “Ten years ago some Namibians were dying from malaria and AIDS. I remember every day at the mortuary it was just a convoy of people taking people to the cemetery who had died of AIDS and malaria, but can you still see the same number of deaths due to AIDS?
“The Swapo-led government has brought medicine and better medical care at people’s disposal.”
Kamwi further highlighted some of the achievements made by the ruling party such as the pension grants, better health services for pregnant women, upgrading of schools and road infrastructure.
“Sam Nujoma liberated this country, Hifikepunye Pohamba put in place programmes – established the roads – but we need Hage Geingob to continue on the unfinished programmes that were set up by President Pohamba,” said Kamwi.
Sixteen people re-joined Swapo at the rally and were given T-shirts and caps bearing the colours of the party.
