Home National Gala dinner raises over N$1 million for Swapo

WALVIS BAY – The Swapo Party branch in Erongo Region raised over N$1 million for the party during a high-profile gala dinner held at the Atlantic Hotel on Friday evening at Walvis Bay. The funds were raised for the Presidential and National Assembly election campaign currently underway.

The gala dinner attracted Swapo supporters in the region as well as from other regions and was also attended by top party leaders – Swapo Secretary General Nangolo Mbumba, the Minister of Justice Utoni Nujoma, the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Bernard Esau and the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Alpheus Muheua.

However the absence of the main speaker of the evening, Swapo presidential candidate and Prime Minister Dr Hage Geingob who tendered an apology as he had to travel to Outapi due to more urgent commitments disappointed many that attended the gala event.

This however did not discourage Swapo supporters to dig deep into their pockets for the party with the single biggest pledge coming from Walvis Bay businessman John Savva, who pledged N$500 000 while the port expansion constructor, China Harbour Company, pledged N$60 000.

Speaking on behalf of Geingob, Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Theo-Ben Gurirab said party members must support Geingob and ensure they vote on November 28.

Outlining the party’s history and the important roles its played in the country’s development, as well as by the Founding Father, Dr Sam Nujoma, current party and Namibian President, Hifikepunye Pohamba, he said the country must rally behind Swapo.

“In order to ensure the continuation of history and to pay tribute to our leaders that were instrumental and endured the apartheid struggle we must make sure that we cast our votes to the benefit of the country and its people,” stated Gurirab in the message of Geingob.
