Namibians abroad can vote

Home National Namibians abroad can vote

WINDHOEK – The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has dismissed media reports and complaints regarding the casting of votes outside Namibia – that it should be unmistakeably clear that no decision has been taken by the ECN to exclude any registered Namibian voters that will be abroad on November 14, 2014 to vote.

A press release issued yesterday by Vikitoria Hango the ECN corporate communications officer said the ECN’s stipulation is that all registered voters in possession of a valid voter’s card will be allowed to vote in terms of section 98 of the Electoral Act.

“All those who registered inside Namibia and find themselves abroad on the 14th of November and will still be abroad by November 28 2014 will be allowed to vote at designated foreign missions and will be able to vote on the 14th of November and if they come back before the 28th then they will be allowed to vote in Namibia instead of abroad,” said Hango

“Thus the ECN will put logistical arrangements in place to ensure no voters will be able to vote more than once and as a constitutional body ECN remains committed to uphold the Namibian Constitutional and Electoral Act, noting that it is precisely wrong for any person to claim that such a decision has been taken by the Commission,” she added.
