Home Crime and Courts DNA incriminates Outjo suspect

WINDHOEK – DNA samples drawn from a man who is accused of raping and/or trying to rape three women and killing one of his victim’s sons, is a perfect match to swab samples taken from his rape victims, the High Court heard yesterday.

Maryn Swart from the National Forensics Science Institute testified swabs taken from Johannes Lukuwa Hausiku “corresponded” with swabs taken from his victims.

She said on the first victim’s swabs she extracted two profiles, one belonging to a female deponent and one belonging to a male.

According to Swart the samples taken from the victims correlated fully with that of Hausiku and there can be no doubt that he was the one that deposited the sperm collected from the complainants.

Hausiku faces charges of murder, kidnapping and eight counts of rape.

Hausiku already pleaded not guilty to all charges on his first appearance and his state funded lawyer, Mbandja Siyomundji informed Judge Nate Ndauendapo he puts the burden of proof on the state. State Pathologist, Dr Yuri Vasin previously testified the two-year old boy died as a result of direct impact to the head.

He said the injury to the head could have resulted from a blow with a stone or stick wielded with substantial force.

In a confession Hausiku made to a magistrate after his arrest, he admitted that he killed the deceased, but said that he accidentally stabbed the infant when he tried to kill the complainant who is the mother of the boy.

Yesterday the mother of the deceased testified she woke up next to Hausiku after a night of heavy drinking.

She told the court Hausiku told her upon enquiry a certain Kalundjindi and other men took her son with them.

She said after Hausiku ordered her to follow him into the bushes he removed her shoelaces and tied them together.

He then put the shoelaces around her neck and asked her to choose between life and death, she testified.

When she chose life, the woman said in a monotone, Hausiku ordered her to remove her clothes upon which he had intercourse with her without her consent.

On a question from the state whether she agreed to have sex with Hausiku, she said that she had no option as she already lost her son and did not want to die.

After he satisfied himself with her, the woman said, he took her to the main road and showed her the way to Outjo where she reported her ordeal to the police.

The case continues.
