WINDHOEK – TransNamib board of directors has confirmed the suspension of its Chief Executive Officer Sara Naanda, in a statement issued yesterday with the signature of the board member and board spokesperson Dantagos Jimmy-Melani.

“The board of TransNamib Holdings hereby announces that Sara Naanda, has been suspended with full pay, pending finalisation of investigations into allegations of wrongdoing, inter alia, insubordination of board instructions,” the statement said.

Hippy Tjivikua, who is currently the executive for Strategy & Stakeholder Management, has been appointed as acting CEO, according to the statement.

The SWAPO Party Youth League  (SPYL) has earlier questioned the reasons and the validity of the apparent decision to suspend Naanda, following media reports regarding Naanda’s imminent suspension. Naanda was reported to have appeared before the board on Monday morning.

“If members of the new board (some of them) are taking decisions on the basis of information received from managers within TransNamib who are against the CEO, can it be expected that the same board members would receive similar information from the cleaners and artisans of TransNamib? What is the crime that the CEO has committed?” asked SPYL Secretary, Dr Elijah Ngurare.
