MARIENTAL – DTA president McHenry Venaani said his party will unseat the ruling party Swapo in next month’s elections, saying Namibians have noted how their plight has changed for the worse during Swapo’s 24 years in power.
Venaani called on Namibians to vote for him, and his party into power if they have any hopes of getting lifted out of poverty.
While addressing more than 500 enthusiastic and jubilant party supporters at Mariental on Saturday, Venaani charged that the ruling party Swapo has failed the majority and turned them into beggars.
Venaani said he had no doubt that the DTA will unseat Swapo in next month’s elections, saying the ruling party has driven poor people into further poverty while the rich have become richer.
“[Secretary to Cabinet] Frans Kapofi motivated the reason why the [ministers’] Volvos should be replaced with Mercs – it was because the ministers are too fat and cannot fit into the smaller cars anymore,” Venaani said, amidst loud applause from the passionate crowd.
Venaani said the Swapo Party insults people’s intelligence by insisting on fighting while those in default are still roaming around freely without being brought to justice.
“Look at the permanent secretary of the education ministry [Vincent Ilukena] who till today is in the office despite the recent exposure of his dealings.”
Venaani then turned his wrath to Swapo presidential candidate Dr Hage Geingob who recently said the ruling party is a trendsetter and that opposition parties have mastered the art of copying all that Swapo does, including parts of its manifesto.
“Please go tell Hage that indeed the Swapo Party is the biggest copycat. Their campaign strategy now is what the DTA started ages ago; with transporting rally goers with busses, providing food at rallies and the list goes on.”
The Swapo government should thank the DTA for the democracy the country enjoys today because DTA blocked Swapo from including communist ideals in the constitution, Venaani told his followers.
The DTA leader then touched on a series of interventions his party intends to embark upon once voted into power.
“My party will introduce urban resettlement programmes to give people free serviced erven, because with the status quo not a single poor person will ever afford land in the urban areas,” he said.
