SWAKOPMUND – The mayor of Swakopmund, Juuso Kambeushe, yesterday condemned the alleged murder of Mutaleni Yalukeni – a 43-year-old Swakopmund resident – who died last week Wednesday allegedly at the hands of her estranged husband, Madala Junia Jonas.

Jonas who was arrested after the alleged crime took place at their home in Mondesa last week, is accused of poisoning his wife.
The allegation is currently being investigated as police await the post-mortem results of Mutaleni. The couple were allegedly drinking beer at home before Mutaleni died.
While being transported to hospital Mutaleni apparently screamingly told family members that her husband had poisoned her.
Condemning the alleged murder, Kambueshe said there is no justification for such a heinous crime and urged coastal residents to stand together and report any violence to authorities be it in their households or at their neighbours as this could save lives.
“We will have no social peace unless we stand together and influence the law to come up with stringent measures to root out such killings,” Kambueshe said.
He also urged councillors and mayors in the Erongo Region to address the matter urgently to avoid such crime.
Indications are that Jonas was also reported to the police in August this year when he allegedly shot at his deceased wife with a pistol. The bullet missed her and hit a television set in the couple’s home at Mondesa.
The couple were separated but still legally married prior to Mutaleni’s death.
An autopsy is currently being conducted by Nampol to determine whether the deceased died of poisoning and, if so, what poison was used.
Madala appeared last week Friday in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court and was denied bail. His case was remanded to December 8 for further investigation.
This is the second murder of a woman in Swakopmund this month. Two weeks ago, a 50-year-old man killed his 44-year-old girlfriend and hanged himself in Swakopmund The couple were identified as Vilho Lukas and Andelia Velnoma Samuel.
The murder and suicide were only discovered the next morning when a neighbour went looking for the couple and found their shack locked from the inside. Police were then alerted and found the couple dead in the shack. The wife was cut with a sharp object while the husband was found hanging.
