Bumpy roads to Katima state hospital

Home National Bumpy roads to Katima state hospital

KATIMA MULILO – The bad condition of roads leading to Katima Mulilo State Hospital has forced local people visiting the hospital and ambulance drivers conveying patients to and from the hospital to use alternate routes.

The majority of roads leading to the hospital suffered heavy damage after last year’s rain – especially the road leading to the mortuary, which is the most potholed.
The Katima Mulilo State Hospital is the only hospital in the region with a mortuary and serves the entire Zambezi Region, besides the mortuary of Mutelo Funeral Undertakers.
New Era understands that the roads have not been repaired for ages. Only the debris of stones could be seen as evidence that management had tried to mitigate the situation.
When contacted for comments on the plans to repair the damaged road, the Acting Director of the Katima Mulilo State Hospital, Agnes Mwilima, confirmed the disastrous condition of the roads and said plans for restoration of the roads are underway.
But she refused to comment on who is responsible for maintenance of the roads nor could she establish when the restoration would commence and the amount of money involved in the refurbishment.
