WINDHOEK – Chariko Draghoender, 25, attempted suicide by shooting himself with an airgun on Friday – allegedly because he always sees himself as too black and dark to the extent that his complexion obstructs him in whatever he endeavours, the police said yesterday.

Sergeant Slogan Matheus, from the Namibian Police’s Public Relations Department, informed the media at the weekly crime briefing that the incident happened in Khomasdal.
Matheus added that Draghoender sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Katutura State Hospital from where he was later transferred and admitted to the Windhoek Central Hospital.
His condition was serious but stable. Matheus said the police would notify social workers on Monday for psychological assistance of the victim.

A quarrel allegedly erupted between them that led to the stabbing when an amount of N$250 that the accused was provided by the manager to pay the casual workers went missing at work, and when all the employees were searched, Ngangane allegedly refused to be searched.
After stabbing Ngangane, the accused handed himself to the police. The deceased’s next of kin have been informed.
