Police officers allege lack of uniforms

Home Featured Police officers allege lack of uniforms

WINDHOEK – Police officers last week confided in New Era that there are not enough uniforms for force members, which result in them wearing torn socks.

“When we go and collect socks we are informed there not enough socks, or they refuse to provide us with socks,” said a female police officer.
The head of the Namibian Police Public Relations Division, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi, denied the allegations last week.
“They are lying, there are plenty in stock.”
The deputy commissioner added that if a police force member is untidy, they should not blame the system.
The deputy commissioner volunteered to show New Era around to verify that there are enough uniforms for police force members.
Police officers are encouraged to take pride in their uniform, which is the property of the government.
Police officers are also barred from walking around with a cigarette, as well as consume alcohol while in uniform.
