WINDHOEK – The Bank Windhoek fistball champions will be crowned this weekend with the finals in both the National A and B leagues slated for the DTS sport fields in Windhoek tomorrow.

Defending division A league champions, SKW 1, have qualified for the final after finishing top on the final log standings and will meet either SKW 2 or Cohen FC 1 who will then meet in a play-off.

Cohen FC 1 will once again be without their experienced setter, Jens Iben, but they have sufficient depth on the bench to compensate for his absence. The match will also be a test of character for U18 national team captain, Tristan Minz, who plays for Cohen FC 1 and Rico Kühnle-Kreitz, who plays for SKW 2. The pair’s overall performance as spikers will determine their team success.

Hosts DTS will come against a strong SKW 3 in the qualification match for the final of the national B league. Lingering at the bottom of the log standings for most of the season, SKW 3 of late have shown a return to form in the last couple of league matches. The team’s spiker, Gernot Helm, returned to the club this season after a lengthy absence and has made a notable contribution to the team’s success.

Meanwhile, DTS will attempt to capitalise on homeground advantage in their 2nd attempt in as many years to reach the championship final. They have been the most consistent team in the league thus far regularly featuring in the league log’s top three throughout the season.

The winner of the qualification match will take on Cohen FC3 in the National B league final. The defending champions have shown a mixed form of late.

The qualification matches will commence at 10h00 while the B league final will be played at 14h30 and the final of the A league at 16h00. There will be further action during the day with play-off matches for 3rd place slated in between the main matches.
