There were conflicting versions yesterday regarding the much anticipated music concert slated for this Saturday and headlined by Nigerian duo P-Square.
An hour after Nigerian High Commissioner to Namibia Biodun Olorunfemi had said that the event has been postponed due to complications in the visa applications of the Nigerian twin singers, Namibia Breweries Limited, the concert’s main organiser, issued a statement stating that discussions were ongoing in an “attempt to ensure that the P-Square concert takes place as planned.”
New Era understands that Cabinet’s decision to ban all travellers from the Ebola-hit countries was central to why the visas of the two P-Square singers were not issued until last night. Nigeria is one of the west African countries in which Ebola is wreaking havoc.
The event was set for this weekend at the Hage Geingob Stadium and throngs of Namibian fans had already bought ordinary tickets for N$150 and VIP tickets for N$250. High Commissioner Olorunfemi yesterday told New Era that he was informed that the event has been indefinitely postponed.
However, speaking on behalf of Namibia Breweries Limited, Roux-che Locke of the Ohlthaver & List Group of Companies, said: “We will know of the final outcome tomorrow morning [today] upon which we will issue a media statement.”
New Era understands that organisers were last night locked in meetings with government representatives, who are being asked to make an exception for the two popular Nigerian singers to enter the country.
Organisers of the concert yesterday refused to talk about how the fans who had already acquired tickets would be refunded in the event that government refused to grant entrance to P-Square.
