WALVIS BAY – A two-year-old boy tragically drowned in a sewage dam in Arandis on Saturday afternoon.
According to Deputy Commissioner Otillie Kashuupulwa the incident occurred around 12h00 when three minors slipped away unnoticed from their home to play at the sewage dam.
“The two-year-old boy fell into the dam. The other two then ran back and informed the parents about the incident,” Kashuupulwa said.
According to her the pond is situated about 900 metres from the houses in Arandis.
She said the body of the boy was retrieved the same day.
Some details of the incident were still sketchy yesterday but were still being investigated.
In a different matter an unidentified man went missing at the Swakopmund jetty on Saturday afternoon.
According to information availed to New Era the Swakopmund emergency services rushed to the jetty on Saturday afternoon after being alerted that people saw a man jumping off the jetty.
Unconfirmed reports point to the man allegedly having committed suicide. He removed all his clothes before jumping into the water.. When contacted for comment yesterday afternoon Kashuupulwa told New Era the search for the man was continuing.
