WINDHOEK–Lovely Man, a drama, directed by Teddy Soeriaatmadja from Indonesia, ends the Indonesian Film Week tonight.
Lovely Man screens at six O’clock (18h00) at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC)’s Cinema and entrance is free. It portrays, Cahaya, a 19-year-old girl with strong Islamic values, who discovers that her long lost father is a transvestite working on the streets of Jakarta. Working with well-worn material about family relationships and father-daughter bonds that is never once in danger of falling into cliché, this layered story unfolds over the course of one enlightening and bittersweet night.
The screenings was officially launched on Monday with Soegija which was highly acclaimed by viewers. The opening was attended by more than 70 guests including members of the Diplomatic Corps. Speaking at the launch, Indonesian Ambassador, Agustinus Sumartono, said the Indinosian Film Week, which began last year, has become a window for Namibians to get to know Indonesia as a country, and her people. “It’s therefore an important platform to enhance cultural exchange and cooperation between the two countries,” added Sumartono.
