Ambunda to fight Quigg in September

Home Featured Ambunda to fight Quigg in September

WINDHOEK – Namibia’s former world champion Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda is set to challenge British boxer Scott Quigg for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Bantamweight world title, at the Phones-4-U Arena in Manchester, UK on 13 September.

Promoter Nestor ‘Sunshine’ Tobias yesterday confirmed the news, saying Ambunda had just been accorded another opportunity to redeem himself and become a world champion again after he lost his WBO Bantamweight world title to Japanese boxer Tomoki Kameda last year.

Ambunda has only lost once from a total of 22 fights in the paid ranks.

“Scott Quigg is a world class fighter and he is still unbeaten after 28 professional fights which is an incredible record, but he has never fought ‘The Rock’ and we will therefore ensure that he tastes his first defeat at the hands of Ambunda,” said an upbeat Tobias.

“We have utmost respect for Quigg and he has unfortunately made the wrong choice by accepting this fight and we will go there and do our best. This will be Ambunda’s second fight in this weight class which is Super Bantamweight and we want to make this a memorable fight for him and our country, therefore need the nation’s support.”

“The Phone4U arena will be crowded with over 20 000 cheering fans from England and we would at best appreciate that the fight be televised live in Namibia so that he knows his people back home are watching. In this light we have requested that the promoter of the fight considers giving us the TV rights for Namibia to enable our fans here to watch the fight,” added Tobias.
