ONGWEDIVA– The Oshana Education Directorate will present 20 science projects at the National Science Fair set for the capital in September this year.
These projects were selected during the Oshana regional science fair at Ongwediva recently. The Cabatana Private Primary School at Oshakati received two gold medals after two of its learners – Lahja Kalenga Panduleni and Zonya Shingwalulu – were declared the overall winners in the primary school category. Olavi Nghaamwa from the Evululuko Secondary School, also at Oshakati, is the overall winner in the secondary school level.
In 2011, the Oshana region received a certificate for being a well-organised and disciplined team during the National Science Fair of that year.
At the end of the science fair last Friday, Francis Munduba, the chief judge of the Oshana science fair, wished the participants well for their next level of competition, and requested teachers to guide the learners properly to fine-tune their projects.
He also urged learners to be purpose-driven.
Munduba, however, expressed concern that the number of schools participating in the regional science fair is becoming less every year.
“This does not augur well, given the fact that we are a developing country and still need more innovative technological ideas to boost our economy,” he noted.
In this connection, Munduba advised the regional science fair committee members to embark upon a serious campaign to ensure that all education circuits have active coordinators, so that schools are mobilised to take part in both circuit fairs and regional fair. (NAMPA)
