LÜDERITZ – Last week on Thursday Seaflower White Fish Company, donated 5 small dinghy boats with a capacity for ten people to the councillor of Okatjali Constituency in Oshana Region.
This donation was prompted by a plea from the Okatjali Constituency office made a year ago to mitigate the effects of recurrent flooding has on school-going children whose classes are disrupted by floods.
Mike Nghipunya, the acting CEO of Seaflower White Fish Company, explained that his company is committed to meeting the government halfway to assist those in need.
He said they want to move from being better to being the best. Nghipunya further emphasised they normally donate 120 kgs of fish to school-feedings programmes at four schools in Luderitz and two schools in Noordoewer.
The councillor for Okatjali Constituency in the Oshana Region, Joseph Mupetami, said he was very pleased and grateful for this donation of the five dinghy boats.
He mentioned the donation given to his constituency, came at the right time, as Okatjali is one of the flood-prone constituencies in the Oshana Region. These boats will not only benefit the Okatjali but the entire Oshana Region.
Mupetami expressed gratitude to the Seaflower and particularly to the acting CEO and the entire management of the company for taking up their corporate responsibilities, of donating these boats that would greatly help the flood victims in his constituency.
He further emphasised that the donation made by the Seaflower White Fish Company was very close to the heart of the Okatjali, which has good grazing that attracts farmers from different parts of the Oshana.
He believes with this donation, it will definitely benefit these farmers as they struggle to move around whenever there is flood as well as the school-going children.
“This donation which we are receiving here today is a clear testimony that, we have intensified our collaborative efforts, in the fight against disasters and guarantee the well-being of the Namibian people. I therefore call upon other companies, private and public as well as Samaritan members of the society to emulate this good example and contribute towards the development of our communities. Therefore I would like to thank Seaflower White Fish Company on behalf of the government, and Okatjali people for this worthy donation,” further stated Mupetami.
