WINDHOEK – Even turnout at the Sandveld Research Station Sanga/Nguni auction last week was not as large as was expected, the total turnover was about N$900 000, which is very impressive.
Farmers from all corners of the country such as Chris Movirongo from Kunene region, Wilson Kaapama from Grootfontein, Leon Tsuseb from Erongo region, Mbeuta Ua-Ndjarakana from Eiseb, as well as many farmers from the Omaheke region turned up for the auction hosted held by the Ministry of Finance as the auctioneers. Geoffrey Kauta bought the most expensive bull which went for N$30 000 and Rodney Shaningwa bought the most expensive two cows which sold for N$8 500 each. Nguni has over the years slowly penetrated the cattle farming especially in the Omaheke region but since the Station acquired the Nguni breeding material from Omatjene in the early 1980s, many farmers has shown great interest in the breed as it is evident in at the auctions which has been held at the Station annually these past years.
