WINDHOEK -Preparations are underway for the hosting of another memorable edition of the Skorpion Zinc U/17 Cup, slated for Windhoek at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on August 22-25.
The Namibia Football Association (NFA) and Skorpion Zinc Mine have promised to host a bumper second edition of the developmental tournament, this time in Namibia’s capital, after the successful inaugural edition held in Keetmanshoop last year.
According to Barry Rukoro, Secretary General of the NFA, regional football administrations are hard at work with preparations for the competition and as defending champions, Khomas region will be hosting this year’s tournament.
“I have received information from the other regions that they are coming to Windhoek to make sure they spoil the party for Khomas. The defending champions are at home and will be favourites again, but I foresee yet another great intense competition,” stated Rukoro who called on all Namibians to fill the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
“I believe the atmosphere that we witnessed at The Namibian Newspaper Cup competitions is duly due to attendance and that really brings the best out of the boys and I have no doubt, our football friendly Sam Nujoma Stadium will produce a memorable experience for all. “
Khomas won the competition last year after defeating Erongo region 2-1 in the final at Keetmanshoop.
Oshikoto region finished third after overcoming Oshana region 2-1. Last year, the NFA and mining giant, Skorpion Zinc announced a sponsorship deal worth N$1.3 million for a period of three years.
