WINDHOEK – Mighty Gunners, Rebels and Benfica booked their spots in the 2014/15 MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL) season, while Rundu Chiefs was relegated to first division football after failing to secure enough points during the NPL promotional/relegation playoffs in Tsumeb over the weekend.
Tsumeb-based outfit Benfica managed to defeat Chiefs 1-0, while Windhoek-based Rebels edged out Gunners 4-2. Gunners restored some confidence with a 3-1 victory over Chiefs while Rebels and Benfica played to a goalless draw.
Gunners recorded their second win of the playoffs with a 3-2 win over Benfica yesterday. Chiefs finally got their win yesterday when they defeated Rebels 2-1 to finish at the bottom of the table with only three points.
Gunners finished atop on six points, with Benfica in 2nd place on four points and Rebels finishing 3rd also on four points. The results mean Gunners are back in the country’s elite league along with Benfica and Rebels, while Chiefs will contest next season in the North East First Division.
