WINDHOEK – Namibian Paralympic swimmer Gideon Nasilowski (29) appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on a charge of reckless or negligent driving alternatively driving with an excessive blood-alcohol level.
Nasilowski recently made waves in local and international swimming circles for his feats in the swimming pool. He was arrested on Saturday and subsequently released on police bail of N$4 000 the same day. During his first court appearance his rights to legal representation were explained to him and he indicated he will engage a private lawyer. Magistrate John Sindano then postponed the matter to June 09 on request of prosecutor Nasilele Siyambango for legal representation and further investigation and Nasilowski’s bail was consequently extended.
Also yesterday three new cases of theft were heard by the magistrate. Twenty-four-year-old Moses Nelombe made a first appearance for theft of two loaves of banana bread and pieces of fried chicken valued at N$95.92 from Shoprite on May 09. After his rights to legal representation were explained to him he indicated that he would defend himself. The case was postponed to June 25 for further investigation and his police bail of N$200 was extended until that time.
In another case of shoplifting, Matheus Nangolo (30) made a first appearance before Magistrate Sindano. It is alleged he stole toilettry including body lotion, liquid body gel, shower gel among others from Game valued at N$287 on May 08. He also indicated that he would defend himself in the matter. The matter was postponed to June 25 for further investigation and Nangolo’s police bail of N$200 was also extended. Three young men also made a first appearance before Magistrate Sindano for the theft of 4 Jockey vests from Edgars on May 09. Ndinoomwaameni Hainyanyala (24), Sakaria Kuutondokwa (24) and 25-year-old Mateus Shikongo were advised of their rights to legal representation and all three indicated that they will conduct their defence. The case was postponed to June 23 for further investigation and their police bail of N$250 each was extended until then.
