ONGWEDIVA – The names of seven of nine victims that died on Friday afternoon in a horrific road accident near Oniingo village in Oshikoto Region have been released by the police.

The seven – two adult males, a three-year-old boy and four women – died on Friday  when a navy Blue Toyota lpsum station wagon they were travelling in collided head-on with a white Nissan truck on the Ondangwa-Omuthiya main road about 30 km from Ondangwa.

According to Deputy Commissioner Willem Peter of the Oshikoto Police, the accident took place between Okatope and Onathinge at around 12h20.

Peter said the seven were all Namibians.

Hosea Awala (40) a male from Onankali village was believed to be the driver of the station wagon. The other adult male victim was Asre Sakeus Nekwa Petrus (21) from Onashikuvu village. Immanuel Panduleni Petrus was three years old.

The female victims were identified as Albertina Naufiku Noonga (41) from Ombundia village,  Lydia Nelulu (31) from Onampengu village, Saima Shikongo (28) from Oshana village, and  Hilia Ndinelago Matheus (38) from Eheke village.

Deputy Commissioner Peter said police could not release details of the eighth and ninth victims as the eighth victim was identified but the next of kin was not yet informed while the ninth was yet to be identified.

He said the driver of the truck who was alone in his vehicle survived the accident with minor injuries. Police investigations continue.
