WINDHOEK – The first round of the Bank Windhoek Fistball Championship kicks off this coming Saturday at the SFC Sport Club in Swakopmund, with the matches officially starting at 08h30.
Champions SKW-1 once again start the league season as favourites in the Bank Windhoek National A-League. Their main challenge for supremacy this season is expected to come from SKW-2 and Cohen FC-1.
The SKW second string side has Rico Kühnle-Kreitz in its midst. The U/18 national team spiker has improved tremendously over the past years and is well on his way to become one of the premier attacking players in the country.
Cohen FC-1 on the other hand had a great performance during the cup tournament about three weeks ago where they only lost in the final to SKW-1, but with their mix of seasoned campaigners and exciting U/18 players, they are definitely the team to watch this season.
The Bank Windhoek National B-League champions, Cohen FC-3 will aim to start their title defence with a couple of wins on Saturday. The team showed an indifferent form recently but they have shown that they have the class to win the important matches.
Other teams in the Bank Windhoek National B-League which have a shot at the title are SKW-3 and home team Swakopmund Fistball Club (SFC-2). Although SKW-3 will be without some key players over the weekend, they are expected to give opponents a run for their money as the league season progresses.
The surprise package in the league is DTS. The club has started to integrate a number of newcomers into their team, which still needs to find their feet. All eyes will be on the U/18 national team players who are busy with their final preparations for the U/18 World Championships. The team will be under the leadership of coach, Andreas Minz, and leave for Brazil in April, where the championship will be held. There they will compete against teams from Austria, Germany, Brazil, Switzerland, Chile and Argentina.
