By Confidence Musariri WINDHOEK PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba has joined the campaign for safety on the roads during the festive season by composing and performing a song urging drivers to ‘Stay Alert’. The album titled ‘Stay Alert’ was released last Sunday and has a compilation of songs performed by a star-studded Namibian cast of musicians, among others Gazza, Pablo and Tate Buti. Produced by Omaleti Studios, which stole the music scene last year with a Nujoma-Pohamba Swapo campaign album, this time the President goes an extra mile. Rhymes Pohamba in the song, “Remain sober 24/7, having fun or a long day at the office you deserve a good rest.” The album comes at the most appropriate time with Namibia historically recording the highest number of accidents during its festive season. “For your own safety and other road users, please drive safely, the nation needs you Big Time!” continues the President as a danceable Kwiku beat streams in. The song is sure to rock Namibia at the festive braais as well as end of year parties and is a potentially new recruit in the line-up to the 2006 Sanlam Music Awards With the majority of road accidents being attributed to human error, the President emphasises on the title track very much in the song, “Be considerate, stay alert and buckle up -I’m doing it.” The album has been produced in collaboration with the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund of Namibia (MVA)’s “Xupifa Eemwenyo” campaign, which seeks to raise awareness amongst road users. Executive Producer of Omaleti Productions, John Walenga, in an insert on the album cover, quotes the President as saying; “It’s my duty to serve humanity in whatever way. If my words would make a difference, let humanity hear it in whatever form.” The album has award -winning Gazza singing ‘Buckle Up’, while Tate Buti and doinky entertainer, Webster (Namibia’s custody of Brenda’s legacy) doing track four, ‘Super Focus’. Another scorcher is Pedrito’s Kanindo beat on track 9, ‘120km/h.’ The song is fast and has the singer’s hoarse voice complementing the beat. It’s listenable, and Ruddy and Vetvesapi will surely rock all Herero stations in the country with powerful ‘Ngatu Kengeze’. The 11-track album is a gem, and the President puts it better when he flows, “Yes I am Hifikepunye Pohamba, Stay Alert, Stay Alert, Stay Alert”.
