By Emma Kakololo WINDHOEK RESIDENTS of Tsumkwe and Gam areas can now watch NBC-TV, after Minister of Information and Broadcasting Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah last Thursday switched on television transmissions to the two remote areas. Due to distance and the somewhat inaccessible terrain (grassy plains with thick bushes and dotted with mangetti, marula and baobab trees), provision of basic services to these remote communities has always been a problem. Several years ago, the areas were provided with telephone services. “One thing that I must do is to inform the nation about the progress that NBC is making,” Nandi-Ndaitwah proudly commented. “I cannot hide my joy that a great milestone is achieved when as from today December 8, 2005, our citizens and residents of Tsumkwe and Gam will have access to NBC-TV,” she stated. She said: “It was on December 20, 2003, when NBC started !HA radio, thus paving the way for radio broadcasting in Tsumkwe. That was followed by the establishment of a transmitter station at Tsumkwe and Gam.” Subsequently, in Tsumkwe, one can receive the National, San, Oshiwambo and Rukavango radios, while in Gam, National, Otjiherero and Oshiwambo radios can be received.” The minister also commended the corporation’s technical team for working hard to make the national project a reality. Tsumkwe residents are advised to use the VHF blue band. For those with houses in town, a normal indoor antenna can be used while those outside town must use roof type blue band antennas. In Gam all houses are urged to use the roof VHF blue band antennas.
