Time For Welwitschia Music Tour

Home Archived Time For Welwitschia Music Tour

Windhoek Since the successful launch of the well attended Welwitschia Music Tour 2005, the organizers received numerous requests for more live music performances from the people, especially those in the southern regions. The request was considered and Welwitschia Music Tour 2006 is now the response to that call. Welwitschia Music Tour 2006 is a promotional road show across the country whereby the combination of dimensions of the “biggest, best and most recognized” cannot be overemphasized. It is targeted at audiences from all lifestyles and assured to be an interesting leisure bargain. Welwitschia Music Tour 2006 will be staged in five Namibian towns and will feature live music performances by a line-up of local music heavyweights including Namibia’s Music ambassador and Kora African Award nominee, Stella as well as superlative singing sensations Phura, Ralph & Pelle (Marus di /gereseb) and Stanley. The town of Mariental was initially included but due to the recent devastating floods the town was exempt from the tour itinerary. However, a fundamental social responsibility angle is linked to the tour, whereby a portion of the ticket proceeds will be donated to help victims in Mariental and the surrounding areas. The tour will present an excellent opportunity for its supporting partners to fill an important aspect of their community development role. The generous sponsorship of N$15 000 from the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre and technical backing from NBC and NTN clearly demonstrates their authentic support to the development of Namibian arts and culture, which simultaneously will motivate and empower young people with skills and knowledge to become self-employed. The tour will kick off on April 28 (Oranjemund – Power Station), April 29 (Rosh Pinah – Community Hall), April 30 (LÃÆ’Æ‘Æ‘ÃÆ”šÃ‚¼deritz – Soccer Stadium), May 03 (Keetmanshoop) and end on May 05 (Windhoek – Zoo Park). Entrance fee is N$20 per person except for the Windhoek concert where advance tickets will cost N$20 and N$30 at the gate. Artists’ CDs will be on sale and exciting promotional prizes will be given away at all the shows.
