It was with dismay I read about the reader’s letter about NamPost regarding the handling of post. So many times readers concerns regarding missing mail and parcels at NamPost appeared in the newspapers. No improvement is apparent, or at least, it seems so. It is also apparent that the management of NamPost is ignorant about this issue. Why are they silent on this issue? Are they by that admitting their failure to put in proper controls? Or are they not able to strengthen existing controls? I experienced a lot of times the same as the person whose letter has been placed in the Namibian newspaper of 19/05/2006.If the situation is not to change for the better in the near future, why is the competency of the current management not investigated? And if that is not done then the government which is the sole shareholder of this parastatal is also condoning the bad service being rendered. What should happen before a bad service is to be improved upon. Why are we having this happening for so many years after the scandal of ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚± 4 years ago, when opened parcels and other postal items were found? Is it really very difficult to put in stricter control measures, or are those who are in charge of any existing controls not also part of the mafia? Or, can the management make a full press release in which they could outline current control systems within the mail and parcel-handling sections, to the broader public? I have personally an additional point regarding the delivery time of NamPost. It sometimes takes mail to be delivered from a company in Windhoek to me, also in Windhoek, almost 5 days. I am not guessing, because I check my mail everyday. It is time that NamPost should be privatized immediately; that’s the only solution, or the management should be replaced, if they do not do something drastic on the bad services NamPost is rendering. I am just astonished by some hungry criminals within the company who do not have the decency to leave alone mail or parcels destined to their customers. These persons opening others’ parcels or mail started at home (when they were still kids) to open mail of their parents; that’s all I can presume. I excuse those employees of NamPost who earn their monthly salaries honestly. Bravo to you!!! Finally, get rid of those rotten apples that are tarnishing the image of ones known for excellent service. It is not tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year. Get rid of them now!!!! A Rooi
