The annual Pepsi High School Dance Competition is to be held on 7 and 8 July at Zoo Park in the capital, it was announced in a press statement by Zula Entertainment and Promotions. “The competition is an initiative to create and provide a platform to high school learners to practise their dancing skills on a competitive and rewarding basis. The event also helps to bring school dancing groups together in efforts to provide relief to young people in an environment for relaxation and social upliftment,” said the statement. The competition is apparently a long-term project to keep the school-going youth actively and productively occupied through entertainment in three categories: kwaito, hip-hop and kwasa kwasa. “The judging criteria will be creative dancing styles, best outfits, general appearance and crowd response. Prize monies can also be won in the different categories whereas the winning school will receive a trophy,” said the organizers.
