By Ashley Zolkov The annual Music Festival of the College of the Arts, in which student soloists perform, starts tonight and ends tomorrow at the National Theatre of Namibia, its was announced in a press release. The festival performances are directed by Ernst van Biljon and the programme, includes music by Purcell, Mozart, Haydn, Handel, Beethoven, Donizetti, Bernstein and Jerome Kern. “For the first time the festival will include traditional dance with a production titled, ‘The Journey to Freedom’ by Ueshitile Shekupe,” the statement said. Some eighteen students have been selected to appear in the music show. “The annual Concerto Festival provides a showcase of the very best musicians from the College of the Arts. Its aim is to promote local talent while maintaining international standards of excellence,” said Ashley Zolkov in the statement. The festival is primarily sponsored by the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC).
