Alice in Wonderland Fantasy: This is a well-known and beloved story adapted into a charming short ballet that will appeal to both young and old. 2. The Sylph – This story is based on the ballet “La Sylphide”, meaning The Sylph. This is a story about a young Scottish peasant who is haunted by the vision of a beautiful Sylph whom he can never grasp. On the day of his wedding, he gives in to temptation and follows the Sylph into the woods, leaving behind his heartbroken fiancÃÆ’Æ‘Æ‘ÃÆ”šÃ‚©e. In the woods, a witch whom he has previously angered and her coven of witches, poison a silken scarf. She gives this to the young man telling him it will help him to catch the Sylph. The Sylph desires the scarf, but when it is placed around her shoulders, she loses her wings and dies. This is a very beautiful ballet depicting the forces of good and evil. 3. The Sleeping Beauty – This is a ballet based on the age-old story loved by all. Guest Soloists: a) Steven van Wyk – He is a student at the University of Cape Town and also performed in last year’s ballet production of the College, “The Nutcracker Suite”. Steven performs regularly in ballet productions of the Cape Town City Ballet. b) Zaandre du Toit – A former student at the College, Zaandre is now a full-time student at UCT.
