…Doeseb talks tough

SWAKOPMUND – MTC Premiership chairman Johnny ‘JJD’ Doeseb has lambasted some of the leading clubs campaigning in the country’s topflight league for their apparent lack of innovation in marketing their brands.

Many local football clubs have in the past lagged way behind in terms of brand awareness and mediocre marketing strategies, according to Doeseb. Taking the hint last Saturday prior to their MTC Premier league encounter against hosts PC Blue Boys, Katutura glamour football club African Stars embarked on a marketing campaign  in conjunction with the Swakopmund-based outfit.

The two clubs organized what they termed “a player meet and greet and game promotion campaign” at a popular Swakopmund shopping mall to create a buzz and interest in the game, which the visitors won 2-1. The country’s most supported club also used the opportunity to market its upcoming CAF Confederations Cup match against the visiting Angolan champions Petro Atletico, at the Sam Nujoma Stadium slated for Windhoek this coming Friday. The decisive return leg is slated for the Angolan capital, Luanda a fortnight later.
