WINDHOEK – An unidentified but severely burnt man was found near the newly-built Unam hostel last Friday and is currently in hospital in a critical condition.

Gerhard Marais the site manager of the newly constructed hostel at the main Unam campus was driving to the site when he found a man on the side of the road and he realised the man was seriously burnt, but still alive and in a critical condition. He was so severely burnt that he lost most of his skin. Marais immediately alerted the City Police and paramedics of the city. No fire was however found at the scene or nearby making it hard to know whether the victim was burnt there or merely dumped there. The man was rushed to the Katutura State Hospital where he is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The victim was under the influence of alcohol when he was discovered and it is suspected that maybe he had a fight with someone who could have done that to him and dumped him there, but no one knows exactly what could have happened since the burnt victim is unable to answer questions because of the severity of his injury. The Windhoek City Police was on patrol with a group of journalists on Friday night when they were called to the scene under the supervision of Superintendent Haufiku.
