WALVIS BAY –  At least six people have died in the Erongo Region this past weekend. Four died in two separate accidents while another two died in a  shack fire.

Crime Investigations Co-coordinator of the Namibian Police Force (Nampol) in the Erongo Region, Detective  Inspector Ottilie Kashipuulwa told New Era yesterday that three people died at Langstrand between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, when the vehicle they were travelling in collided head-on with another vehicle. She said the driver of one vehicle attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided with the oncoming vehicleThree people, two women and a man died on the spot.  The names are known, but cannot be released until their next of kin have been informed. The accident happened on Saturday evening. Also, on Saturday one person died outside Karibib when the vehicle he was travelling in left the road and overturned.

It is believed the sedan vehicle with five occupants, including two children, overturned after the driver apparently lost control at a bend in the road. Two others were also injured, but are said to be in a stable condition. The other two persons died when a shack they were sleeping in caught fire early yesterday morning in  Kuisebmund at Walvis Bay. The cause of the fire is not known, however three shacks were also gutted in the fire-prone suburb.
