WINDHOEK – It’s once again that time of the year when the country’s biggest football bonanza returns, with football teams from all corners of the country vying for supremacy when matches in the elimination round of the 2nd edition of the popular Bidvest Namibia Cup gets underway this weekend.

The first round of matches of the knockout tournament will start in the northern part of the country when teams in the revamped North East Stream First Division lock horns, with Julinho Sporting taking on Eastern Chiefs in the only match to be played on Friday at the Rundu Sports Stadium.

Games will again continue on Saturday morning when Oshikango Chiefs take on Katima Wanderers in what promises to be a fierce battle between the two outfits, while the second match of the day will be between Young Rangers and Ohangwena Nampol.

Tsumeb-based outfit Chief Santos will open their assault against equally dangerous Benfica also on Saturday, while Bingo confront Cuca Tops in a match that holds prospects of producing fireworks on the day. Meanwhile, the match between Ondangwa United and King Fisher will bring the day’s proceedings to an end when the two outfits confront each other at the Rundu Sports Stadium.

In more action to come, matches in the popular Southern Stream First Division will only get underway over the weekend of January 25/26 at the Mariental Rugby Stadium, while action in the highly competitive North West Stream First Division will kick off on February 1st and 2nd at the Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo.
