Acapella festival returns

The Acappella Music Festival Namibia will host its second season tomorrow at Eros Primary School.

Founded in 2023, the festival has rapidly evolved from an idea into what organisers describe as a movement with a mission.

The festival starts at 17h00 and will be held under the theme ‘Transformative Power of Music’.

“We want to uplift the Acapella industry. Since our inception, we’ve sponsored a music video for Divine Singers ‘Softly & Tenderly’ and hosted the Beyond the Stage Workshop to help vocal artists realise that their voices carry a message beyond performance,” co-founder Lawrence Marongwe said.

This year’s lineup features regional and international talent, including Shower Power from Zimbabwe, Voixt from Zambia and South African comedian Yerik, who will serve as the host. Namibia’s own Collective Singers and Harmonic Messengers will also give a performance.

Marongwe believes Acapella, performed without instruments, carries a unique power.

“The festival is not just a platform but also a way to address societal decays. We believe Acapella has the power to heal and transform. Last year, our theme was ‘Healing through Harmony’. This year, it is about transformation,” he said.

Festival preparations are well underway, the groups have been booked, and tickets are secured. However, financing remains a challenge.  “We are a self-funded organisation and are still looking for sponsors. Alone, we can only do so much, but together we can achieve big things,” Marongwe stressed.

Tickets are available through Webtickets, with Phase 1 tickets at N$200 until 20 September and Phase 2 at N$250.

Students can purchase limited tickets for N$130.

The event will also feature stalls open to the public for local entrepreneurs to showcase their products.

“I would like to invite everyone to this auspicious event aimed at promoting creative and cultural expressions, reminding God’s people of the Transformative Power of Music,” Marongwe concluded with an invitation.

Above all, he credits the festival’s existence to faith, “The brain behind the project is God, who used me and Liezel Mainga to bring it to life”.
