Well-known resident of Donkerhoek in Windhoek’s Katutura suburb, and a former ardent Tigers Football Club supporter, Christof Hanghuwo, died over the weekend at the Katutura hospital after a short illness.

According to family members, Hanghuwo died of kidney failure.

Hanghuwo was also a longstanding member of the SWAPO Party and was actively involved in political activism during the days of occupation.

SWAPO Party Elders Council, Emmanuel Muatara described the late Hanghuwo as a fearless gentleman and a true patriot who never succumbed to pressure from the authorities during the party’s early years.

“Hanghuwo was a devoted SWAPO elder. From the onset, he never missed a single meeting, that I can tell you,” Muatara said.

According the Muatara, the SWAPO Party has lost a man of integrity and good character. “We at SWAPO are mourning the loss of this fine man and we wish all the strength and courage to the bereaved family,” said Muatara.

His wife Alma and 10 children survive Hanghuwo. He is to be buried this coming Saturday at the Oponganda Cemetery in Katutura. A memorial service is also planned for him at the Macedonia Lutheran church in Katutura on Friday evening.

Hanghuwo was 72 years old.
