By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK New York-based Namibian actress, singer and radio personality, Tousy Tjijombo, is presently back in the country on a month-long holiday with her family in the capital. “I have been away for more than two years working and living in New York. Right now I am enjoying myself tremendously being back home with my family and friends and especially my mother’s food,” Tousy said when I met up with her during the consultative meeting of Namibian filmmakers last week. She has joined the Oruuano Artists Union during the period she has been in the country. “The Big Apple to me is like home away from home, but I prefer Namibia. By the way, I will now represent the interests of the Oruuano Artists Union in the United States on my return early in September. The idea is to help strengthen the union’s creative ties with American artists and that is exactly what I intend doing when I go back,” Tousy, who claims she has been acting in a number of American movies, said. She has been cast in cameo film and television parts in films such as Freedom Land, with Samuel Jackson, Bedford Diaries and Law and Order-Trial by Jury, a very popular television series world wide. “I have been accepted as a full-time student by Lehman College in the Bronx in New York and will do a four-year degree in the arts. After that I will definitely return home to come work in our country. That is my dream and ultimate aim,” she said patriotically.
