WINDHOEK– It is sad that performers are like drugs- at first you think wow! this is the best and then once you grow used to them then you go like, “who gave this person permission to stand before a crowd?”
When I went to Hilton Hotel last Thursday evening, I expected some good stuff at the Kalabar Jazz night. I sat back in the comfortable seating, closed my eyes, as I wait to drift away to the beautiful sound of vocalist, Adora Kisting. I have had a couple of her singles before, and so I though her voice would give me goose bumps because it was my first time listening to her perform live. But on that evening I was certain that she was two different people.
Every song sounded like the previous, though she mainly performed CD covers she failed rather dismally to pull it off in one solid piece. Perhaps the recent tour to China, and other part of the world have taken their tolls on her because that night she was only an echo of her former self.
I’m not saying she is a bad singer but she didn’t do jazz any justice last Thursday. Even the Ti mama singer, the late Jackson Kaujeua was rolling in his grave because she really managed top it off.
Every Thursday from 19h00 to 22h00, the Hilton Kalabar features live music act under the brand Jazz-etcetera. Singing sensation, Esmeralda Katjikuru, will be part of the jazz night on July 18 and July 25.
