In a bold step to empower Africa’s youth through technology, the AFree App was officially launched on 28 June 2025 at the Namibian College of Open Learning centre in Katutura, Windhoek.

The event, hosted by WolfTech Trading CC, attracted young Namibians, including students, creators and entrepreneurs eager to explore Africa’s latest innovation in social connectivity.

The AFree App, founded by a Kyrgyzstani tech entrepreneur Baktibek Batyrkanov, and locally implemented through WolfTech, is designed to connect, empower and inspire African youth.

“Africa doesn’t just need users. It needs tech leaders. AFree is here to help build them,” he said.

The app is set to become a unique digital ecosystem that allows users to monetise content, host live events, build communities and collaborate across borders.

“AFree is more than a product. It’s a tool of empowerment, created by Africans for Africans. Wolftech’s mission is to create access and opportunities for all – whether they are an artist, entrepreneur, student or dreamer. The app caters to all,” said managing member Heita Ebson.

Lazarus Iithete, CEO of WolfTech, called the app launch “a movement that puts Africa at the centre of innovation”.

He highlighted the platform’s role in providing youth with a space to tell their own stories.

At the launch, Miss Namibia 2024 Prisca Anyolo encouraged attendees to see their mobile phones as more than entertainment devices.

“Your phone can be your startup office, classroom and voice,” she said.

The event blended tech with culture, featuring performances by local artists such as Latoya Stella and Vill-Gent as well as a comedy show by Kgosi and Willbard Nam.

Panel discussions and hands-on app demos were also part of the event.

Guests tested AFree’s features, while developers gathered feedback to refine the user experience.

As the app becomes available for download, Namibia now joins the frontline of a digital movement aimed at turning African creativity into economic power.
