AIESEC Namibia to host first Youth Speak Forum in SADC

Home Youth Corner AIESEC Namibia to host first Youth Speak Forum in SADC

WINDHOEK

The International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences in Namibia (AIESEC) will host the first regional Youth Speak Forum at the Polytechnic of Namibia from October 16 to 17, under the theme ‘Social Entrepreneurship: How to see problems as opportunities’.
Youth Speak is a global youth movement focusing on understanding the hopes and challenges surrounding the journey from higher education to employment for young people. Over 100 countries and territories and 40,000 voices are captured in the comprehensive survey which engages stakeholders across government, business, third sector and educators in letting the voices of young people be heard.
AIESEC provides decision-makers with key insights into a global youth opinion and how we can bridge the gap between young people and decision-makers across sectors.
This year’s Youth Speak Forum will make history in Namibia in the sense that it will give the youth the opportunity to reflect on and debate whether the issues currently affecting them are being tackled, as stipulated in the United Nations agenda, and also at the government level.
No longer are young people content to sit on sidelines as in the past. Young people are taking action and are increasingly included in decision-making processes. This realisation and understanding is needed to ensure that the views of multiple generations are reflected in the discussions in order to make more inclusive and sustainable decisions.
The theme for this year has been deliberately selected to awaken the youth in Namibia, so that they are not bogged down by problems, but see these problems in their communities as opportunities that enable them to develop themselves, the people in their surroundings, and better the current status of their communities.
The event will be graced with renowned and successful speakers in the field of social entrepreneurship and a high-powered discussion panel, leading into a series of workshops to be presented by partner companies and organisations that actively support youth leadership and empowerment.
AIESEC is the world’s largest youth led organization, developing the leadership potential of young people worldwide. It is present in over 126 countries and territories with more than 70 000 members across 2 400 universities. Since 1948 it has developed over one million people, including one Nobel Peace Prize winner, and many prominent world, business and civil society leaders.
AIESEC in Namibia is present at the University of Namibia, Polytechnic of Namibia and the International University of Management, offering young people a chance to develop their leadership potential through life-changing professional and personal development experiences.
AIESEC Namibia is calling on all interested youth in Namibia to be part of this historical event. For more information visit www.aiesecnamibia.org or contact Grace Chundama on 0814068261, email: grace.chundama@aiesec.net
