WINDHOEK – With thirteen days left before the curtain opens for the 9th edition of the CAF Women’s Championship to be hosted by Namibia, Algeria was the first from the seven countries to arrive in Windhoek after the team touched down at Hosea Kutako International Airport on Sunday.

The Algerians, who are paired in Group B alongside African powerhouses Ghana, Cameroon and South Africa, touched down at 06h30 yesterday to a warm welcome by the LOC and the Algerian Ambassador to Namibia.

The team’s head coach, Azzedine Chih said the 38-member delegation arrived well ahead of schedule in order to acclimatize to Namibia’s weather and continue their preparations in their quest for their first-ever continental triumph at this level.

“We are here two weeks before our opening match and want to feel the weather and just get going to see what we can do here. We are here to take our chances and see how far we can go. Obviously we are in a very tough group consisting of teams with World Cup and Olympic experience and we know what to expect.”

The Algerians will be followed by Ghana with the rest of the squads to arrive from 7 October.

The championship gets underway at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday, 11 October at 17h00 with hosts Namibia taking on Zambia in the opening match in Group A.

Entrance is free and match tickets can be obtained through Computicket.
