All set for Nedbank Volley Tournament

Organisers of the third edition of the 2024 Nedbank Volley first Tournament, scheduled for 21 December at the Mole in Swakopmund, say it’s all systems go for the highly-anticipated social event.

Dave Hammond of Connect People to People (CPTP), said they have partnered Nedbank Namibia to organise the tournament, which moves from northern Namibia to the coast for the first time.

“The first two editions of the volleyball tournament took place in Ongwediva in 2022, and Oshakati in 2023. This year, we will have the tournament in Swakopmund because everybody comes over for the December holidays,” he said.

They expect between 12 and 24 teams to participate in the six-a-side tournament, where eight-man teams must have at least two women on the court. Hammond added that the tournament is a social event mostly for average volleyball players and corporate companies who are looking to unwind as the year comes to an end.

“We don’t expect Namibia Volleyball Federation registered players to participate because this event is mainly for corporates, families and friends who will find themselves at the coast during the day to come and have fun. It will be a fun day for everyone,” he stated.

Entry fees are N$800 per team, and there are only 24 spots reserved for the tournament, which will have prizes of up to N$12 000.

Nedbank Namibia Executive Head of Marketing and Communications Gernot de Klerk said they are thrilled to be part of the ever-growing Nedbank Volley 1st Tournament.

“Nedbank Namibia is thrilled to support an event that embodies the values of social cohesion, community empowerment, and the growth of sport in our nation. This tournament is more than just a competition; it’s an opportunity to bring people together, strengthen connections, and celebrate the vibrant spirit of volleyball.

“Our recent partnership with CPTP in establishing the Outdoor Activity Hub further underscores our commitment to creating spaces where families and individuals can engage in meaningful, active lifestyles. These initiatives are at the heart of what we stand for: fostering unity and development in our communities,” he added.

De Klerk said Nedbank Namibia fully supports such impactful endeavours and encourages other corporates to join them in championing initiatives that uplift and inspire.

“I urge all sports lovers, families, friends, and businesses to be part of the third edition of the tournament, whether as participants or supporters; let’s come together to make this event unforgettable,” he added.

On top of the volleyball, Nedbank and CPTP have set up the Outdoor Activity Hub in Swakopmund, at the Tennis Court parking area, where they offer various activities such as skating, mini golf/putt-putt, axe-throwing, a rope tree course, jumping castles, a kiddie’s train, a mechanical bull and an escape room over the festive season.
