ONGWEDIVA – ALV Consulting Engineers, as part of its corporate social responsibility, handed over a sponsorship of N$50 000 to Ongwediva-based Lions Football Club (FC) on Wednesday.
Handing over the donation, Civil Engineer at ALV Consulting Engineers Reginald Sheehama said “We want to empower the youth, and we will continue to do this so that we can improve the economy of the country through youth investment”.
Lions FC representative Heicky Iiyambo expressed gratitude for the gesture, saying the donation will make a difference in the lives of the youth who are part of the club. The club was established in 2024, and features in the Oshana Village-Based Football League (OVBFL) third division at Omaalala.
“Lions Football Club adds value to sports development in the northern part of Namibia, and it is progressing well in moulding star-quality footballers,” he said.
He added that the team provides a conducive environment for young footballers to thrive and realise their dreams. He said that the team is open to amateur, professional footballers and the public who seek to participate for fitness purposes.
“For many, football is a hobby – but for some, it is an employment opportunity that puts food on the table. We will continue to do our best to empower the youth and create platforms for them to shine,” he said. The team has 30 players and six heads of management. -Nampa
