AMINUIS football and netball teams emerged victorious in the Omaheke Governor’s Cup finals played at Legare Stadium in Gobabis early Monday.
The competition aimed at eliminating hunger in the region saw 10 football and netball teams compete for N$50 000 in addition to trophies and medals.
In the netball category, Epukiro ladies defeated their Otjinene counterparts with a 28–25 scoreline in the first semifinal.
The fiercely contested second semifinal match between Aminuis Rural and Gobabis Urban followed, with Aminuis emerging as 30-20 winners over Gobabis.
Aminuis was then crowned the champion of the Governor’s Cup netball category after winning 18-17 against Epukiro in the final.
In addition to a trophy, Aminuis ladies pocketed N$10 000 and 12 gold medals as final winners, whereas Epukiro took home N$5 000 and 12 silver medals as runners-up.
Each Otjinene and Gobabis netball team walks away with N$2 500 for coming in third in the competition.
In the football category, Otjinene overcame their counterparts from Gobabis Urban by a solitary goal to win the first semifinal.
The second semifinal saw Aminuis Rural lock horns against Otjombinde, with the latter winning by a 2-0 scoreline and booking their place in the final.
Aminuis was then crowned the Governor’s Cup football champion after beating Otjinene 5-4 on penalties following a goalless stalemate in regulation time.
The champion took home a trophy, a N$15 000 cash prize, and 20 gold medals, whereas Otjinene pocketed N$10 000 plus 20 silver medals as runners-up.
Otjombinde and Gobabis each took home N$2 500 as semifinalists.
