ONGWEDIVA – All seven members of the Ondangwa Town Council were on Friday re-elected.

Paavo Amwele was retained as town mayor, while Ester Avala remains deputy mayor.

Julia Kapia stayed as chairperson of the management committee, while Nicodemus Amadhila and Gaus Tshithigona were elected as members of the management committee.

Ordinary members remain Maria Haufiku and Alfeus Hauwanga.

The office-bearers were elected in terms of Sections 12, 21 and 22 of the Local Authorities Act.

Amwele said he looks forward to continuing to work with his fellow councillors, and to tackle their goal of bringing development to Ondangwa.

“As leaders and councillors, we should always remember that our duties are to give direction to staff members – and to encourage them to do their work in a conducive environment,” he noted.

Amwele said, as councillors, they have officials who are employed to work and implement. They, thus, need to support them in any way to reach their mission and vision.

“I would like to ensure that our achievements can never be measured by the quality of speeches we make, but by the energy we put into improving the lives of the masses who sent us here,” he added.

As mayor, he said, he will, therefore, be relying on the support of everyone involved.

The swearing-in proceedings were officiated by Magistrate Dominic Lisulo.
