Home Crime and Courts Angolans arrested with dagga

Rundu

The police on Tuesday acting on a tip-off arrested three men who were reportedly in possession of marijuana at Tutungeni location in Rundu.
The suspects were arrested between 12h00 and 13h00 after an informer alerted the police, saying the three suspects wanted a buyer for the dagga.
Undercover police officers set a trap and arrested the suspects and at the same time impounded the contraband, for which the three will be charged.
The dagga weighed 18.9 kg and it has a street value of N$56 760, according to the police.
“The suspects were looking for a buyer for the drugs, so we picked up the information and thereafter arranged police action whereby we acted as buyers and we managed to apprehend the suspects at the place we agreed to meet them,” Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo confirmed.
“They were carrying the drugs in a taxi in big bags, and immediately when they came to the pre-arranged place we introduced ourselves as law enforcers. We searched the taxi and got the drugs and arrested them,” Mubebo said.
According to Mubebo, they only got three suspects, who were in the taxi in which the bags of dagga were being transported. Though three suspects were detained only two are expected to appear in court today as the third was freed.
“We are busy with investigations to see how many are involved and also to find out where they sourced the marijuana. T gfahrenfort
he suspects are Portuguese-speaking, so we believe they are Angolans,” he further revealed.
When New Era got to the scene the police had still not weighed the marijuana to determine the quantity and street value. The suspects are to appear in court to hear the charges against them and see if they will be granted bail.
“We are going to charge them this afternoon and hopefully by tomorrow they will be in court. As for the marijuana, we still have to weigh it and after that we will be able to give you the street value,” Mubebo said. The police have warned the people involved in dealing drugs to stop, as the police are ever alert and will not hestate to arrest suspects.
“We know that everybody is trying to get money in every possible way, be it dubious or otherwise, but the police are vigilant and we will bring you to book,” Mubebo further warned.
