Ann Singer debuts with Bulletproof

Home Youth Corner Ann Singer debuts with Bulletproof

Windhoek

Let’s just get this out of the way, Annastasia Linus aka Ann Singer can sing. Her debut album titled Bulletproof contains enough potential hits for the singer to break through not only the local music scene but to become a mainstream artist.

She might not be a household name on the local scene just yet but it’s safe to say that she is just one of the talents that the industry needs from the usual female troupe. An underground singer for years now, the Windhoek-bred singer turned heads with collaborations with Kwaito artists such as Mushe on songs like Number 1, Remember me and Yesterday; with Waka on the song Omwa and many others. This time around she is doing it for herself.  The album is packed with amazing songs such as the title track, track 1, Bulletproof, on which she is singing her breath out and there is no doubt that her powerful voice can carry any song. The album contains some mature and uplifting songs heard locally ever.

Track 4, Diminengepo, and track 10, Rock song, are filled with so much passion and emotion, with the latter being one of the songs bringing out vividly Ann’s vocal range at her best. Up tempos tracks like track 11, Omasanga, and track 9, Mbwiti Dance are somehow mediocre and do not show Ann’s best vocals making one hesitate dancing.

Sure to become the favourite of many is track 6, Unconditional Love, featuring RnB sensation, who is also her mentor, Bertholdt.  The song breaks your heart even before it gets to the bruising chorus. When, Ann joins the “Don’t you worry, your heart is safe with me” chorus, the butterflies in one’s stomach are inescapable.

Track 14, titled Covered, brings out her spirituality in an Acapella beat pushing her voice to the edge thereby emphasising the powerfulness of her vocals, accentuated by equally powerful lyrics. With Bulletproof, Ann explores the Pop and RnB realm, as she digs into dance music. She outshines herself in some areas, but falls short in others. She also enlightens on how she can hit higher and stronger notes by far than any female on the local music scene.  She shows that she is capable of doing anything. The production and mastering of the vocals are on point because one can hardly discern any errors. This explains why it took her so long to come through and releases an album.

Overall, Bulletproof delivers on the artistic end filled with catchy hooks, great melodies and definitely radio friendly. So far this is one of the albums that is currently making fast sales and one must say, it’s definitely worth it, a must have. The album is available at Antonio’s art for N$100.
